Wyvern Dragon Folklore / Wyvern Dragon
Symbolism The dragon is a legendary creature, which is
prevalent to the mythic culture of many countries. Britain, with its diverse
history, has a tradition of dragons stemming from Saxon, Celtic and Norse
influences, as well as those from further afield. The Wyvern was feared for
its viciousness and for the pestilence it brought to northern Europe, Greece
and Ethiopia. It is a winged dragon with a coiling trunk and barbed tail that
bore a pair of eagle's legs
(which are tucked beneath it's wings). The wyvern often appears on heraldic
shields and symbolizes guardianship.
